Reconciliation

Christ has willed that in her prayer and life and action his whole Church should be the sign and instrument of the forgiveness and reconciliation that he acquired for us at the price of his blood. But he entrusted the exercise of the power of absolution to the apostolic ministry which he charged with the ‘ministry of reconciliation.’ The apostle is sent out ‘on behalf of Christ’ with ‘God making his appeal’ through him and pleading: ‘Be reconciled to God.’

Reconciliation (also known as Penance or Confession) is the way by which we are freed from our sins and reunited to God.

The Sacrament can be received by any baptized Catholic. Whether you receive the Sacrament routinely or are returning to it after some time, Jesus awaits to embrace you with His mercy. The Church of the Holy Name offers the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Wednesdays from 6:00-7:00pm, and Saturdays from 8:30am-9:00am & 3:15-3:45pm. If you wish to receive the Sacrament at a different time, please contact the Parish Office at 508-679-6732 or use the email button below to schedule an appointment.

The Sacrament calls us to reflect on our lives and the choices we make. We recall how we have failed to love God and others, so that we can make the commitment to become better, holier people.

Children usually receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation as part of the Religious Education program for grades 1-2. The classes and other materials help these children to cultivate love for God, develop their consciences, and prepare for the reception of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist.

Parents must sign up their children for the Religious Education program to enter.
